To provide safe and nutritious food for all, a series of stakeholder dialogues initiated by CSIR-IITR
led to the identification of gaps where technological interventions are required. Several major
industries and regulatory agencies including FSSAI, BIS and Export Council of India were
consulted during the formulation of the CSIR mission mode programme to meet the unmet needs of
the farmers, industries, consumers and regulatory agencies. CSIR will be delivering
technological solutions for food safety from "seed to stomach" through this "Food and Consumer
Safety Solutions (FOCUS)" mission mode programme.
CSIR has significantly contributed towards food science and technology, for more than five
decades, which has helped regulatory agencies such as BIS and FSSAI to formulate standards and
policy documents. Several industries are using CSIR technologies for providing safe and
nutritious food products. CSIR has launched this mission to provide portable and affordable
technological interventions for safe food. It has an ambitious plan to transform the food
industry as well as empower the entire value chain from farmers to consumers leading to a
healthy and strong India.
